A family in their sailboat hit a powerline in the Tennesse River causing the boat to catch on fire.

On Friday around 3:30 p.m. according to Morgan County Rescue Squad a family of 4 was on their sailboat traveling the Tennessee River to the Flint Creek area near Point Mallard when they struck the lower cable of a power line, and the family reported they felt an electric shock.

Authorities stated part of the boat caught on fire, but Decature Fire department responded within minutes extinguishing the fire.

It was reported that an 11 year old passenger was injured and transported to Huntsville Children's Hospital.

The Morgan County Rescue Squad worked to recover the sailboat from the water.
