Burglars Use Torch To Cut Handle From Church Door

   Burglars who targeted an area church are believed to have used a cutting torch to remove the handle from the door.

   According to reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, the burglary occurred sometime between May 9 and May 12 at Fellowship Christian Church located at 20 Idaho Road in the Leoma area.

   Church representative Thomas Williams told deputies that someone had used what was believed to be a cutting torch to cut the handle from a door in order to gain entry to the interior of the building.

   Once inside, thieves took a Dell brand laptop computer, a Compaq brand laptop computer, and approximately $800 in cash. Total loss and damages were estimated to be $2,000.

   The matter remains under investigation currently by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone with information regarding the crime is encouraged to contact the department at 762-3626.
