Law Enforcement Officers Answer Weekend “Shots Fired” Calls

Local law enforcement officers were summoned to investigate two separate “shots fired” calls during the weekend, both of which resulted in no reported injuries.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department answered the first such call around 9:30 Friday night. When they arrived at the 46 Holloway Road, Five Points home, resident Robert Oscar Davis reported he and Christopher Allen Smith, 27, of 809 Third Street, Lawrenceburg, had become involved in an altercation.

During the scuffle, Davis admitted he got a .22 caliber rifle and fired it at Smith. Davis was subsequently placed under arrest on charges of aggravated assault and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center. He is slated to answer the charge in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on June 6, 2011.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m. Saturday, officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were dispatched to intervene in a shorts fired call in the 1000 block area of Smith Avenue.

After speaking with witnesses, the reporting officer indicates he stopped a passing vehicle and asked whether any of the occupants knew anything about the shooting. All said they had no weapons and knew nothing of the matter.

Noting that the driver appeared be under the influence of an intoxicant, the officer asked that the occupants exit the vehicle and obtained permission to conduct a search.

As the occupants were exiting, the officer reports that passenger Brandon Jamal Coleman, 25, of 1333 Meadowbrook Drive, Pulaski informed him that he “had a gun at his waist.”

He reports retrieving a 9 mm HiPoint handgun from the right side of Coleman’s waistband. The gun, reports show, was loaded with 8 rounds in the magazine.

Three spent casings were seized during the incident. In addition, the reporting officer indicates Coleman had been consuming Crown Royal Whiskey, and had an open bottle inside the vehicle.

Coleman was arrested on charges of possession of a handgun while under the influence of an intoxicant and violation of the open container law. He is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on June 2, 2011.
