Burglar Gains Entry By Removing Window Air Unit

A burglar who broke into a Lawrenceburg home during a brief window of opportunity Wednesday gained access to the home by pushing in a window air conditioning unit.

The resident of Gallaher Boulevard summoned Lawrenceburg Police Officers to his home before noon, indicating that he had left briefly and a burglar had struck.

The victim stated that he had left his home around 10:30 that morning to walk to Sugar & Spice Market on East Gaines Street. He indicated that he returned approximately twenty minutes later to discover his home had been burglarized.

Officers indicate that the culprit gained entry to the home by pushing the air conditioner from the window. The air conditioner was destroyed, as was a closet door and a chest of drawers. According to the resident the burglar absconded with his Play Station 2 system, ten games, his medications, a small Honeywell safe, and approximately $30 worth of quarters.

Officers also noted that, though the culprit had unplugged and moved the victim’s flat screen TV, he had been unable to open the back door and had set the item down and left it.

At the current time investigation into the matter has been handed over for further scrutiny by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
