Teen Sustains Injury In Parking Lot Assault

A teenager sustained injury during the weekend while he was parked in the parking lot of an Iron City business.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report they were dispatched to the business shortly before 3:00 p.m. Saturday. The victim of the assault, they report, was sitting inside his truck, bleeding from a cut above his left eye.

The victim told deputies that a sawmill owner had confronted him about items stolen from his business. He said that when he told him he did not know what he was talking about, the man hit him seven or eight times, “Before he knew what was happening.”

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, as well. The victim had at first refused transport to a hospital. The deputy reports that when he began to experience weakness and dizziness, the victim consented to be transported for medical attention.

Two store employees and the victim’s girlfriend reported that they had been inside the store when the victim entered, his face covered with blood. The girlfriend placed a 911 call to summon help. They told deputies that the two men involved in the assault entered the store as well.

They allegedly warned the women against calling for police officers, saying, “We’re not going to jail, you are.” They said that both men made purchases, then left the premises.

Investigators with department’s Criminal Investigation Division have been tasked with investigating the matter further.
