Domestic Assault Charges Brought Against Lawrence Man

Assault charges were brought against a local man on Friday after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend at their Long Branch Road home.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department answered the 11:11 p.m. call. When they arrived they noticed that a coffee table had been overturned and papers scattered on the floor.

The resident, Troy Allen Luffman, age 43, told deputies that nothing had happened and he, “Didn’t want to waste their time.” He said that his girlfriend had become upset and thrown the table, but that a friend had picked her up and she was no longer at the residence.

Luffman appeared to be the only person present so deputies left the premises. Shortly afterwards dispatchers asked them to return. They said the female resident had returned to the home and that neighbors had reported hearing screaming.

As they pulled up, deputies report that the female victim, age 43, was walking toward a neighbor’s home. Deputies note that the woman had sustained several bruises to her arm, a knot on her forehead, bruises on her neck, and a scratch beside one eye.

The victim told deputies that they had been arguing when Luffman grabbed her by the neck and slammed her to the floor. In addition, she said that he had punched her face several times with his fists.

A medical evaluation was conducted at the scene by emergency medical personnel. Reports show that the victim declined transport to a hospital.

Luffman was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked on a charge of domestic assault. The female victim was taken into custody on an unrelated, outstanding warrant.

Luffman has been scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on June 18, 2013.
