Nashville Pipes And Drums To Perform At The Crockett Theatre

You've heard them play at Christmas Pops on special occasions - and now they are returning to Lawrenceburg to perform an entire concert at the Historic Crockett Theatre on Saturday evening, June 27th, compliments of the Lawrenceburg Beautification Board.

The concert is titled "A Star-Spangled Extravanganza", and will feature beautiful bagpipe music with a patriotic theme. Joining the Nashville Pipes and Drums on some of their selections will be Lawrence County's very own wonderful vocalist, Mrs. Kim Kobeck Thompson.

Tickets are currently on sale for this special concert, which will act as the kick-off for this year's big Libertyfest Celebration, at $10.00 for reserved seating and $5.00 for general admission tickets purchased in advance, $7.00 at the door. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Crockett Arts Center (next door to the Crockett Theatre) and at the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce.

Anne Morrow, Beautification Board Director, gives the details of what is sure to be a very special evening filled with beautiful bagpipe music, "The Lawrenceburg Beautification Board is so happy to present this marvelous group in concert at the Historic Crockett Theatre, an event that will officially begin our 8th Annual Libertyfest in Lawrenceburg - A Salute to the Great State of Georgia with a Gone With The Wind theme.

We are also delighted that Kim Kobeck Thompson, one of our own talented vocalists, will be joining the bagpipes for some selections. Those of you who have heard Kim sing realize how much her lovely voice will add to this special concert."

"Coincidentally, this year is the Nashville Pipes and Drums 25th anniversary. The band was founded in 1984 and over the past quarter century has been dedicated to the education and demonstration of the Scottish arts and culture. Over the years, the band has performed in the middle Tennessee area and throughout the southeast at numerous civic events, Scottish games, festivals, and concerts. Past appearances include the Rod Stewart concert, Amy Grant's Tennessee Christmas in 1995, 1996, 2000, and the Nashville Symphony Christmas Pops Concert in 1998 and 1999."

"In 2000, in Alma, Michigan, the band won the US Open Pipe Band Championship in their division Grade 4. A year later, the band repeated its triumph by winning the 2001 US Open Championship, becoming the only US Grade 4 pipe band to win the award two years in a row. The band released its own CD in 2008, called "The Plaid Album". The new CD will be available for purchase at their performance on June 27th."

"The band wears the Ancient Hunting Robertson tartan in honor of James Robertson, the

founder of Nashville, Tennessee."

"We sincerely hope everyone will make plans to attend this one-of-a-kind concert presented by the Lawrenceburg Beautification Board for the very first time at the Historic Crockett Theatre in Lawrenceburg. We're sure it will be a magical evening for all who are lucky enough to attend!"
