Metal Thieves Becoming More Emboldened

Thieves on the lookout for scrap metal are becoming more emboldened, as proved by the actions of four men in trucks Wednesday.

The victim, age 81, reported to Lawrenceburg Police Officers that he arrived at property he owns situated at East Taylor Street/South Locust Avenue, around 10:13 a.m., to catch the thieves in the act.

The victim told officers that four young men were in the process of loading metal shelves and racks, belonging to him, into their trucks. When he confronted the men, he reports that they “took off at a high rate of speed,” slinging some of the shelves and one rack into the roadway.

The reporting officer indicates that he removed the shelves and rack from the area where they were lying in East Taylor Street. Loss as a result of the crime is estimated to be $200.00.

The men were described as white males, late teens to early 20s. They were traveling in two small trucks – one red in color and one light blue. Anyone who has information that might assist detectives investigating the crime is urged to contact the police department at 762-2276.
