Knoxville Man Charged With Sexual Abuse Of Lawrence County Child

A Knoxville man was arrested last week as the result of an investigation into the sexual abuse of a local child.

Lawrence County Sheriff Jimmy Brown issued a press release on Wednesday saying that Creed Gettys Welch, 62, had been arrested on one count of aggravated child sexual abuse.

Brown said that Welch had resided in Lawrence County for a one-month period. During that time allegations were made against him regarding the sexual abuse of a child. He said that once an investigation had been opened Welch fled back to Knoxville.

Local agents were later able to verify Welch’s whereabouts. They traveled to Knoxville where they partnered with the Knoxville Police Department. They were able to arrest Welch without incident.

Agents transported Welch to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was jailed under a $100,000 bond.
