Lawrence County Democratic Party Responds To Possible Write-In Campaigns

The Lawrence County Democratic Party released the following statement regarding the possibility of write-in campaigns in the August general election:

“To be clear, the Lawrence County Democratic Party endorses and will support the winners of the May 4th Democratic primary in the August general election.

The party opposes the loop-hole in the state law which would allow a candidate defeated in the primary election to conduct a write-in campaign in the general election.

This loop-hole not only undermines the agreed upon electoral process, but more importantly disrespects the will of the people.

Furthermore, if there ends up being a write-in effort from a defeated candidate from our primary, our party will oppose such a bid.

As a party, we feel it is necessary and important to respect the will of the people in Lawrence County and to honor our democratic process. The Democratic Party supports the voters’ decision made on May 4th.”
