Man Cited On Consecutive Days For Marijuana Possession

A Five Points man was issued citations on two consecutive days last weekend for being in possession of marijuana.

On Friday, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department reports show that a traffic stop resulted in a citation being issued to passenger Paul Anthony Hardiman, 33, of 48 Owens Road, Five Points.

Deputies report that as they approached the vehicle they detected a strong odor of marijuana. When they inquired about the smell, they report Hardiman, who was already on probation, handed over a partially smoked marijuana cigarette. He was subsequently cited for simple possession.

The following day deputies report making a traffic stop on a vehicle that Hardiman was driving. The stop was made when it was determined that Hardiman was not wearing a seatbelt.

During the stop, Hardiman allegedly admitted to the reporting officer that he had been cited on the possession charge the day before. He told the officer that he was “an honest man and always confessed when he had illegal drugs.”

The deputy reports he asked Hardiman whether he had any contraband, and that he then handed over a plastic bag containing marijuana.

Hardiman was issued citations during the second stop on charges of violation of the seatbelt law and simple possession of marijuana. He is scheduled to answer the charges in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on June 13, 2011.
