Local Man Arrested On Athens Charges

A Lawrenceburg man was apprehended by Athens, Alabama authorities last week after he allegedly loaded his truck full of items from an antique store, then attempted to leave without paying for them.

Officers with the Athens Police Department were dispatched on the call to Regency Antique Mall on U.S. 72 East, in connection with a theft in progress. When they arrived they report the suspect was still on the scene, preparing to leave.

Officials indicate the suspect, John Timothy Jones, age 41, of Lawrenceburg, had loaded numerous items into his truck, including blue Fenton cats, a rooster and perfume holder, a blue flower vase, antique fishing lure and other antique fishing items, a glass bird, filet knife, spoke shavers, a brass level and a scraper. The items had a total combined value of $809.

Officers reported Jones confessed to removing the property from the store without paying for it. He was subsequently placed under arrest on one count of second-degree theft.

Jones was booked through Athens Police Department then transferred to the Limestone County Jail, where he was incarcerated under a bond of $2,500.
