Fraud Reported By Leoma Man

A Leoma man said Monday that he had learned from Walmart officials in Texas that someone had fraudulently used his identity to purchase tires.

The victim, age 60, told deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that he had received a call from officials with a Walmart store in Lufkin, Texas.

They had called to inform him that he needed to return to the store to pay for a second tire he had obtained.

When the victim informed store officials that he was in Tennessee and had made no such purchase, they indicated that a man had used the victim’s name and telephone number to obtain the tires. He had apparently paid for one tire in cash, then left before paying for the second one.

The victim said that his identity had been used in a similar manner a year before in Illinois. He told deputies that he would advise his bank and credit card companies of the crime.
