Heritage Festival And Green Market Is Coming

The annual Heritage Festival sponsored by Main Street Lawrenceburg is scheduled for May 29 and 30.  We are excited to be expanding the Festival to focus on the heritage of Lawrenceburg and Lawrence County. An Antique’s Appraiser will be located in our beautiful new Providence Hall for those who would like to determine the value of their antiques.  Fees are $15 for one item, $20 for two items and $25 for three items.  Additionally, a quilt show and display of antique collectibles reflecting the home is being sponsored by the FCE Clubs of Lawrence County. These events take place on Saturday, the 30th.

A Vintage Street Fair will be held just off the Square where you may browse and pick up unique and beautiful antiques from pre-1900’s to the 1970’s.  If you would like to reserve a space in the Vintage Street Fair, please call 931-762-6202 or 762-8991, or for more information.  Booth rental is $10.00 for 10’x10’ space.

The Annual Heritage Hustle is scheduled for 7:00 registration and kicks off at 8:00. If you are interested in participating in the 5-K run, please call 931-762-8991.

Many, many activities are planned throughout the day on Saturday.  The Johnson Brothers Carnival out of Arkansas will be right off the Square beginning Thursday and ending Saturday night.  A petting zoo, pony rides, Candy Dance presented for children by the Cherokee Indian Tribe, Long Hunters Society reenactments, and live music throughout the day on Saturday are all part of the fun.

Friday night we feature gospel concerts beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Just bring your lawn chair and enjoy the classic car parade beginning just prior to the gospel concert.  Saturday night features a street dance and also the classic car parade around the Public Square.

We are also pleased to announce the grand opening of The Green Market during the Heritage Festival! The Green Market is an open-air market hosted by the Lawrence County Soil Conservation District in an effort to supply a venue to buy, sell, or trade produce and goods from both farms and individuals as well as educate the public on environmental issues in a fun atmosphere.

The Lawrence County Green Market is active in preserving local farms and providing guidance to the next generation that farming is not only a great lifestyle but a viable way to make a living. The Lawrence County Green Market provides a connection between the farmer and the consumer and creates a partnership that assures a more sustainable future for all concerned.

The Green Market will be on the Lawrenceburg Public Square Saturdays from 8am to 1pm. Opening weekend is May 30, 2009 to continue thru mid-October. Exhibitor applications are still being accepted. There is no cost to the vendors or public for this event!! The Conservation District hopes only to get the message out about the importance of sustainable agriculture and general eco-friendliness.
