Alabama Woman Charged With Being Drunk In Court

An Alabama woman was arrested Monday after it was determined that she was intoxicated while in court.

Amanda Michelle Gray, 33, of County Road 356 Killen, Alabama, was booked through the Lawrence County Detention Center shortly before 2:00 p.m. on charges of public intoxication. Reports show that deputies were summoned to the courtroom area, where they were told that a woman who was in court was possibly intoxicated.

Deputies report when they made contact with Gray she stated that while on a break from court, she had drank a couple of beers “to calm her nerves.”

When asked, Gray agreed to submit to a breathalyzer test, but asked to go to the restroom first. There, reports show while washing her face she began to wash her mouth out with soap and water.

Deputies indicate Gray “had to be assisted” while walking to the detention center “due to being unsteady.”

A malfunction prevented the breathalyzer test from being administered, however Gray was arrested and turned over the corrections officers without incident.
