Friday Storms Packed Tornadoes

Officials with the National Weather Service have indicated that storms that passed through the area Friday afternoon packed two tornadoes.

The storms that passed through resulted in heavy rains and strong winds across the area, hitting at such a time as to cause the delay of the dismissal of Lawrence County Schools for more than an hour.

The storm that hit along the Lewis/Lawrence County line in the Napier area flipped a semi truck parked at one home and toppled several campers inside the NACO resort.

NWS officials have now confirmed that the storm packed an EF1 tornado; the weakest on the measurement scale, yet powerful enough to leave a path of devastation. In addition, they have determined that a second EF1 tornado touched down in Giles County.

Neither tornado resulted in death or serious injury.
