Loretto High School CTE Advisory Council Meeting

The spring meeting of the Loretto High School Career and Technical Education Advisory Council was held on Monday, April 29, 2013 in the Loretto High School library.

The library was adorned with tables decorated with displays of the achievements of the Career and Technical Student Organizations and examples of student work.

As council members began arriving they were greeted by students and were led through tours of the library where each student organization told about the many activities for the year and recapped competition results from the regional, state, and national levels.

The meeting officially began at 10:00 a.m., with a delicious brunch enjoyed by all. Those attending the meeting included representatives from Loretto High School faculty, administration, and guidance, Lawrence Board of Education, Tennessee Valley Authority, First Farmers and Merchants Bank, Loretto Telecom, Lawrence County Farmer’s Co-op, South Lawrence School, the City of Loretto, and Brad Slater Construction.

After refreshments, each teacher introduced their program and students attending. Mr. Royce Neidert, Lawrence County Career and Technical Education Director, addressed the group.

Mr. Neidert discussed the importance of the advisory council and the pivotal role they play in the success of our programs. He congratulated all of the students on their achievements this year, and let them know just how proud the Lawrence County Board of Education is of their accomplishments.

Loretto High School has dual enrollment programs in both welding and plumbing/electric with TTC in Pulaski, TN. Mr. Tony Creecy, Director of TTC in Pulaski, was a special guest at the meeting, along with the new Assistant Director, Mr. Stephen Milligan.

Mr. Creecy addressed the group first by thanking the students, faculty, and administration of Loretto High School for everything they do to ensure that the relationship between LHS and TTC is both positive and productive.

He also explained how the programs are set up, the financial aid process, and how the TTC programs benefit the students with both high school and college credits.

After the speakers addressed the group, each faculty member spent time with the advisory council members in their specific program area discussing ideas for the upcoming year and brainstorming for possible areas of improvement.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 a.m. Following adjournment, council members were able to take student-guided tours of some of the classrooms in the different program areas, where the
