Pedestrian Pulls Motorist From Vehicle During Assault

A motorist reported to law enforcement officials Saturday that a pedestrian had blocked the roadway, then pulled him out of his vehicle and assaulted him.

According to reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department the assault took place along Bryant Road at around 7:00 p.m.

The victim, age 47, reported that he and his wife had been driving along the roadway when they were confronted by a thirty-one year old man with whom they had previously had problems.

They said that he jumped in front of their vehicle, forcing them to stop, then reached through the window and struck the driver several times on the head.

The driver told deputies that he opened his door, “to get him off of him,” and that, “The two of them somehow ended up on the roadway, hitting each other.” He said that some witnesses nearby ran to them in order to break up the fight. The driver said that they then drove to a nearby home to notify authorities.

The witnesses reported that the assailant was making verbal threats to most of them as they were leaving.

The pedestrian told deputies that he had been walking along the roadway when the victim “intentionally swerved” his truck toward him. He said that the driver stopped, “So he reached through the driver side window and punched him, then drug him out onto the ground where they fought each other.”

Deputies noted that neither party had visible injuries, nor did either require medical attention. He advised those involved of the process to go through in order to pursue prosecution, should they wish to do so.
