Burglars Apprehended With Loot In Vehicle

Two young men accused of burglarizing area vehicles overnight Tuesday were apprehended following a brief foot chase.

A resident of Old Florence Pulaski Road, Leoma, reported to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies that someone had broken into her 2000 model Lincoln Town Car sometime between 9:00 and 11:15 p.m. Tuesday while her car was parked at 2906 Highway 43 South, Loretto.

Deputies reported that the front passenger window was broken from the car and the victim’s purse and other items stolen, including her cell phone, Ipod, Zune mp3 player, bracelet, wedding ring, and $550 in cash. Loss and damages were estimated to total $3,051.00.

Just before 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, deputies report they were assisting officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department regarding another auto burglary case when they discovered the cases were related.

Officers had stopped the driver of a 1996 Ford Explorer and during the stop both he and the passenger fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, deputies report they were able to apprehend both the 17 and 18 year old suspects and detain them.

While conducting a search of the vehicle, deputies report finding numerous items that were reported stolen in the previous case.

Those items were released to an owner and the two teens transported to the Lawrenceburg Police Department. All items from the previous burglary were recovered with the exception of the Zune mp3 player, bracelet and $550 cash.

Dewey Seth Richards, 18, of 28 Price Jenkins Road, Leoma, was arrested on charges of burglary, theft and vandalism and transported to the Lawrence County Jail. He is scheduled to answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on June 4, 2010.

The juvenile suspect, an 11th grade student at Lawrence County High School, was released into the custody of his father. Reports indicate juvenile petitions will be obtained against the teen, charging him with the same crimes as Richards. He will be required to answer those charges through Lawrence County Juvenile Court.
