“Not guilty” Plea Entered On Behalf Of Sheriff

Defense attorneys for Lawrence County Sheriff Kenny Taylor entered a plea of “not guilty” on his behalf during a preliminary court appearance Monday morning.

A Lawrence County Grand Jury saw fit to return an indictment during a March 25 session, charging Taylor with the crime of official misconduct. Taylor was served with the indictment at his office the same day.

Taylor is accused of interfering in a police investigation on behalf of his nephew, Jarrod Bradbary, in December. Lawrenceburg Police Officers were allegedly in the process of arresting Bradbary on DUI charges at the time.

Bradbary also appeared in court Monday morning, where his attorney entered a standard “not guilty” plea on his behalf on the DUI charge.

Taylor’s attorneys Ryan Durham and Ben Boston, of the law firm Boston, Holt, Sockwell and Durham, issued a statement on his behalf last week. They reported, “Sheriff Taylor will plead not guilty.  Sheriff Taylor will continue his sworn obligation to protect and serve the good people of Lawrence County who entrusted him to ensure their safety, freedoms, and God given rights. We are confident that our system of justice will bring about a speedy and fair end to this prosecution and vindicate Sheriff Taylor and his high office.”

Neither Taylor nor his attorneys were present in court Monday. Assistant District Attorney Jim White informed Judge Robert Holloway that Taylor’s attorneys had opted for an arraignment by motion.

Both Taylor and Bradbary are scheduled to next appear in Lawrence County Circuit Court on May 12.
