Resident Reports Possible Murder For Profit Scheme

A West Point resident requested that law enforcement officials investigate Monday after he became concerned that he had been targeted in a murder for profit scheme.

The sixty-three-year-old man summoned Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies to his home shortly before 7:00 a.m., reporting strange activity there. He indicated that because of past incidents he had installed video surveillance around his house. He told deputies that two white males had approached his home that morning and began “beating” upon his door. He stated that he overheard one man say, “You get him to the door and I’ll kill him.”

The man explained to deputies that he feared his wife had been influenced by another man to have him killed in order to obtain the proceeds of his $75,000 life insurance policy.

The man told deputies he suspected someone had planted cocaine inside his car and requested that they search to ensure there was none present. After searching the car deputies told the man they found no drugs inside.

The man relayed a few more theories regarding the alleged scheme before deputies left the premises.

Investigation into the matter is on-going at this time.
