Husband Arrested In Domestic Altercation After Disconnecting Phone Lines

A Leoma man was arrested in the wake of a domestic altercation late last week after he refused to allow his wife to telephone for help and ripped the telephone line from the house.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to intervene in the situation on Mockerson Road at 3:15 p.m. Friday. The victim, age 42, told deputies that she and her husband had become involved in an argument that turned heated.

During the argument the victim said her husband began to push her. She said that she tried to phone for help but that he pulled the telephone from the wall. She said told deputies she ran to the bedroom to use a second telephone.

Before she could place the call, however, she said he ran outside and pulled the phone wire loose from the house. Believing that she had already called for help, reports show he then fled from the premises.

Warrants were signed charging the man, Jeffery Gene Crowell, age 49, with domestic assault and domestic vandalism. Crowell was arrested at his home the following day and booked through the Lawrence County Detention Center.
