St. Joseph Resident Faces Charges For Threatening Witness

A resident of St. Joseph has been arrested for allegedly making threats against a woman who is scheduled to testify against her in a legal case.

The victim, age 36, summoned Lawrenceburg Police Officers to a home on Poplar Drive around 4:00 a.m. Thursday. She reported that a woman against whom she is scheduled to testify in a drug-related case, has been making threats against her. She indicated that the threats have been numerous and are on-going.

Around 4:00 a.m., the victim said, she received a text message from the woman that was written in a threatening and harassing manner.

Since the woman had been warned several times to stop harassing the victim, officers were able to obtain a warrant against her. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the woman’s Main Street, St. Joseph home, where they placed her under arrest on one count of retaliation for past action. The woman, Beverly Smith, age 48, was transported to the Lawrence County Jail without incident.
