City Administrator Narrowing Field Of Police Chief Candidates

Lawrenceburg City Administrator William McLain told leaders Thursday that he is working to narrow the field of candidates for the currently-vacant position of chief of police, and may have a recommendation ready for consideration at the board’s next meeting.

The search for a new chief got underway when former Police Chief Terry Shay submitted a notice of early retirement last month. Since his retirement, Assistant Chief Neal Skinner has served as Interim Police Chief.

Under the city’s charter, the city administrator is tasked with recommending a candidate for police chief. The measure must then be approved by the Board of Mayor and Commissioners.

McLain told commissioners during their business meeting Thursday that he had accepted resumes from various individuals and is currently in the process of reviewing resumes and conducting interviews with candidates. He said he will attempt to have a recommendation ready for the board’s April 10 meeting.

Those already employed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department who have submitted resumes for consideration include:  Captain Jim Bentley, Lieutenant Billy Krick, Lieutenant Sam McConnell, Captain Judy Moore and Captain Anthony Nugent. Resumes were also received from interested parties outside the department. Interim Chief Neal Skinner did not wish to be considered for the position.
