Traffic Stop Yields Drug Charges For Columbia Woman

A Columbia woman got more than she bargained for during a trip to Lawrence County last week.

Tanya Jean Jordan, age 35, of 125 Buckner Road, Columbia, was issued drug charges after she was stopped for speeding in the Summertown area Thursday afternoon.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report they stopped Jordan’s 1999 Ford F150 on Highway 43 near Johnson’s One Stop after radar revealed she was traveling at a rate of sixty miles per hour in a fifty mile per hour zone. When they questioned her about anything illegal inside her vehicle, deputies report Jordan began to act in a very nervous manner. She later gave both verbal and written consent, allowing them to conduct a search of the vehicle and her person.

Deputies report they found a plastic bag stuffed inside Jordan’s pants. They indicate she retrieved the bag, which contained approximately twenty-six grams of marijuana. In addition, deputies report finding four pills and small amount of marijuana inside Jordan’s purse. Seized during the incident were more than 26 grams of marijuana along with the pills and her vehicle.

As a result, Jordan was placed under arrest on charges that include possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana for the purpose of resale. She is slated to answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on April 7.
