Charges Dismissed Against Man Accused Of Making Threats

Charges against a local man accused of making threatening remarks by telephone to a court clerk have been dismissed.

Iron City resident Billy Wade Thompson, age 46, was charged with one count of retaliation for past action in the wake of the December 14 incident.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department showed that Thompson had placed the call to a General Sessions clerk around 3:30 that afternoon.

He told the clerk that he had received a letter informing him that his trial date had been rescheduled from December 21 to January 22. The clerk reported that Thompson became “highly agitated,” telling her he was, “tire of being put off.”

The clerk told deputies that Thompson stated that, “He would just come down there tomorrow and take care of the judge and everyone else in the courthouse, and then himself,” that, “He had nothing to lose anyway.”

Thompson appeared in General Sessions Court on February 22 in connection with the charge. During court proceedings the charge against Thompson was dismissed.
