Residents Return From Ballgame To Discover Break In

   A local couple requested a criminal investigation be initiated Monday night when they returned to their home to find it had been burglarized.

   The matter was investigated shortly after 11:00 p.m. through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. Reports show that the couple residing at 2364 Lanning Road had returned home after attending a ball game.

When they pulled close to the house they discovered someone had kicked in a basement door. The couple told deputies they quickly backed to the end of their driveway and placed a 911 call for assistance.

   Inside, residents found that several items were missing. A .38 Keltec handgun was missing from inside a truck, a 9mm Taurus from the closet in the master bedroom, knives from the office area, and an Apple iPod from the kitchen cabinet.

   Deputies indicate the door frame was destroyed and a gun safe had sustained damage. Also, a knife was found protruding from one wall.

   Altogether loss and damages were estimated to total $2,700.

   Investigation into the matter has been handed over to detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who might information regarding the crime is urged to contact the department at 762-3626.
