As Gas Prices Rise So Do Thefts
As has been the trend in the past, as gasoline prices increase, so do the number of gas related thefts.
Such an incident was reported when an employee of Big Oak Market summoned Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies to the 64 Rabbit Trail Road location on Friday.
The clerk reported a driver had pulled to the pumps in a white-over-blue, four-door car at around 4:45 p.m. She indicated that she activated the pump and that the driver then exited and began to fill the tank.
After pumping $41.69 in gasoline, the clerk said the driver laid the nozzle on the ground so as not to cause the pump to “beep,” then fled south on Rabbit Trail Road.
