SHS Band Director Indicted On Rape Charges

A Lawrence County Grand Jury has returned indictments against a former Summertown High School Band Director, asserting that he had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student.

James “Jim” Tucker, age 42, of Silverton Drive, was placed under arrest on one count of statutory rape by an authority figure in early December. He was accused of having sex with a sixteen-year-old student inside the band room of the school.

Tucker had remained free from the Lawrence County Jail under a $50,000 bond until last month. A condition of his bond was that he have no contact with the victim in the case. A bond revocation hearing was held in February during which witnesses testified Tucker had, indeed, had regular contact with the victim. Tucker’s bond was subsequently revoked, and he returned to jail.

After considering evidence presented to them in recent days, a Lawrence County Grand Jury returned indictments against Tucker, charging him with five counts of statutory rape by an authority figure.
