Petitioners Place Liquor By The Drink Vote On The Ballot

Individuals interested in allowing on premises consumption of alcoholic beverages at establishments inside the Lawrenceburg city limits have successfully gathered enough signatures to allow voters to decide the issue.

Officials with the Lawrence County Election Commission indicate that backers of the petition submitted documents bearing more than the number required to bring the matter to a referendum.

State law requires that, in order to call a referendum, such petitions bear the signatures of ten percent of the number of voters who cast votes in the previous gubernatorial race.

Election Commission officials indicate that some 2,795 Lawrenceburg residents cast votes in that race, therefore the petitioners were required to gather a minimum of 280 signatures.

The question regarding liquor by the drink will be added to the ballot for the May 3, 2011 City of Lawrenceburg election.
