Sleeping Driver Garners Drug Charges

   A driver found snoozing inside his vehicle in the parking lot of a Lawrenceburg convenience store during the weekend now faces drug charges.

   Lawrenceburg Police Officers report finding that the driver, Dean Casey Luffman, 33, of 64 White Oak Drive, was asleep inside his truck in the parking lot of Quik Stop at 300 West Gaines Street, shortly before 3:00 a.m. Saturday.

   While speaking with Luffman, officers report noticing a pipe, believed to be a crack pipe, in the door of the truck. The report that they asked Luffman whether he had any weapons or illegal drugs inside his vehicle, and that he replied, “no.”

   At this point, officers report Luffman was removed from the truck and placed in handcuffs until the pipe could be positively identified. Inside the door panel, they report finding not one, but two pipes. They indicated, “both had crack cocaine inside them.”

   While conducting a search of Luffman’s truck, officers report they also located a Marlboro cigarette box that contained approximately two grams of a substance believed to be marijuana.

   As a result, Luffman was placed under arrest on charges that include possession of Schedule II narcotics, simple possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

   Luffman is slated to answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on April 3, 2009.
