Thieves Target Fire Victims’ Charred Home

   Victims of a recent house fire were victimized anew in past days when they returned to the charred remains of their home to find it had been ransacked by thieves.

   The victims reported the crime to officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department last week. They indicated they had returned to the remains of their 305 Debus Street home to retrieve some salvageable items.

When they entered, they told officers they noticed that the site had been disturbed. A search revealed that valuables had been stolen.

   The victims indicated that a set of gold plated flatware valued at $500 had been pilfered along with a coin collection valued at $300.

   At the time reports were filed the fire victims were working to determine whether anything else was missing.

   Investigation into the matter is continuing by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information pertinent to the investigation is urged to contact the department at 762-2276.
