Drug Charges Result From Friday Night Traffic Stop
Drug charges resulted from a traffic stop that was made by a Lawrenceburg Police officer in connection with an incident that occurred inside a city park Friday night.
According to reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department the officer made the stop shortly before 9:00 p.m. after noticing a vehicle speeding through Bobby Brewer Memorial Park after hours.
Park hours posted are sunrise to sunset except during scheduled events. The reporting officer pointed out, however, that no events were scheduled that evening. The officer indicated that the driver was traveling at speeds considerably above the posted 10 mile per hour speed limit.
After making contact with the driver, twenty-year-old Demetri Jaymes Richard of 859 Wesley Chapel Road, the officer reports that he became verbally confrontational. The officer found that Richard was driving on a suspended driver’s license and subsequently placed him under arrest.
The officer reports that Richard granted consent for a search. He reports finding a Sig Saur 9mm pistol inside the vehicle with one round in the chamber. He found the magazine, loaded with eleven rounds, lying on the floor.
The officer reported finding a roll of money in the center console that totaled $4,160. He found $108 in Richard’s pocket and another $692 in his wallet. In addition, a prescription bottle that contained nine pills identified as oxycodone was seized along with a plastic bag bearing a white powder residue.
Richard was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center without incident. He was booked under charges of unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of Schedule II narcotics for the purpose of resale. He was issued citations on charges of speeding, violation of the window tint law, and violation of the registration law.
Richard has been scheduled an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on April 3, 2014.
