Detectives Delve Into Recent Jewelry Thefts

Local detectives have been asked to look into recent jewelry thefts reported by area residents.

On Friday deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a home on Loretto’s Beartown Road.

The female victim reported she had noticed that her jewelry box had gone missing from atop her dresser. She said she had last seen it the previous evening when she left for work.

She told deputies that a relative and her boyfriend had left shortly afterwards, but had forgotten to lock the door. The victim estimated the value of the items to total $1,500.

Monday resident of Ethridge Redhill Road summoned deputies to their home after discovering they had fallen victim to a burglary. Deputies report that the culprit had used a rock to break the glass in the back door and gain entry.

While inside, the victim said the thief stole various items of jewelry along with DVDs, six pairs of blue jeans, and a bag of medications. In total, the items were said to be worth $1,270.

Investigation in both cases has been turned over to detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone with knowledge about either crime is encouraged to contact the department at 931-762-3626.
