Drug charges result from recent chase in Saint Joseph area

Drug charges resulted from a chase undertaken by Saint Joseph Police officers late last week. Department officials reported that the incident occurred on South Old Military Road when an officer on patrol saw that a person was driving a vehicle with an expired tag.

The officer knew that there were outstanding warrants against the driver, identified as Jimmy Ray Nix, age 40, and tried to conduct a traffic stop. He reports that Nix fled, and that he pursued him.

Nix was soon stopped when a second officer blocked his path at the intersection of Highway 43.

After detaining Nix, officers searched his vehicle and reported finding several items of drug paraphernalia along with 14 ounces of methamphetamine and a loaded .45 caliber pistol.

Nix was incarcerated at the Lawrence County Jail on charges of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of meth for the purpose of resale.

Officials say that more charges may be placed at a later date.
