Thursday Evening Crash Claims Lawrence Teen

A crash that occurred Thursday evening inside the City of Lawrenceburg claimed the life of a local teenager.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of U.S. Highway 64 West (West Gaines Street), near the Watson Drive and Waterloo Street intersections, shortly after 7:00 p.m.

Reports show that Haley Stamps, age 19, of Five Points was westbound in a Chevrolet Blazer when she impacted another vehicle, causing her vehicle to cross into the path of oncoming traffic.

Stamps then apparently overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross back onto the west side of the highway. The SUV reportedly jumped a curb, impacted a utility pole and overturned.

Both Stamps and an unidentified infant passenger were ejected from the vehicle. Stamps was pronounced dead at the scene, however the baby sustained only minor injuries.

Passenger Brittney Killen, 20, also sustained minor injury in the crash. Officers report that though she was a front seat passenger, Killen was thrown into the rear seat during the crash.

Both Killen and the infant were transported by the Lawrence County Ambulance Service to Crockett Hospital.
