Church Officials Report Burglaries

Officials with two local churches reported to authorities last week that their sanctuaries had been burglarized.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were first dispatched to Meadowview Baptist Church on Kennedy Street on Monday where the pastor reported someone had illegally entered the premises during the night.

The pastor reported that when he entered around 8:55 a.m., he noticed cabinet doors and desk drawers had been left open. Items were strewn about on the floor, as well. He told officers that nothing appeared to be missing and no damages were found.

Officers believe the culprit entered through a door on the north side of the building. They report that although it had been locked, the door had not closed completely.

On Tuesday, officers were summoned to Greater Tabernacle Baptist Church on Susanne Street. Church officials reported that a rear door had been left unlocked, allowing someone to enter the building unimpeded.

Once inside, the intruder sprayed the hallways with a fire extinguisher. Nothing appeared to be missing.

Investigation into both crimes is currently underway through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the department at 931-762-2276.
