Burglar Escapes Through Floor

An Ethridge resident told law enforcement officials that he returned to his home during the weekend to find an intruder fleeing through a hole in the floor.

The resident of South Blackwood Lane summoned Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies to his home around 12:30 a.m. Sunday. He indicated that he had returned home shortly before and began hearing noise coming from one bedroom. When he opened the door, he indicated he saw someone trying to crawl through an area where the floor was caved in. The individual, he stated, quickly scrambled from beneath the home and fled on foot.

The resident was unable to give a description of the intruder, stating only that he/she had long hair. He told deputies that the only barrier preventing anyone from entering through the hole was a piece of tin covering the rear of the home.

According to reports nothing appeared to be missing or damaged.

Investigation into the matter is continuing at this time through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
