Owner Requests Investigation Into Cat Shooting

A Georgia resident who maintains property in Lawrence County requested that an investigation be initiated Monday after learning that one of her cats had been shot, resulting in what was ultimately a fatal injury.

The victim contacted deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department from Atlanta. She told deputies that she owns a farm at 2946 Knob Creek Road, with several cats on the property.

The victim said that a few days prior neighbors who oversee the property informed her that a gray cat had gone missing. Two days later a neighbor contacted her to say that the cat had been located, but that it was “crippled up.”

The neighbor took the cat to a local veterinarian clinic for evaluation and treatment. The veterinarian discovered that the cat had a broken back leg. He said it appeared that the cat had been shot. The cat died the following day.

The victim has requested that a full investigation be completed.
