Stolen Gun Recovered At Lawrenceburg Pawn Shop

An employee of a Lawrenceburg pawn shop was the key that allowed local law enforcement officials to recover a handgun that had previously been reported as stolen.

Officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department were summoned to Rebel Pawn Shop on Depot Street on Wednesday. The employee indicated that a customer had brought in the Smith and Wesson handgun to sell. When he ran the serial number through the National Crime Information Center database, however, the employee learned that it had been reported stolen.

Officers report speaking with the man who had been in possession of the stolen weapon. He stated that he had purchased it from a man in Warren, Ohio. The man indicated that law enforcement officials in Ohio had indicated the gun serial number was clear.

At the current time the matter has been turned over for further investigation through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
