Credit Report Shows Several Attempts To Steal Identity

A Lawrence County man reported to authorities last week that repeated attempts had been made to steal his identity.

The victim, age 77, stopped by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday to report the crime. He told deputies that he had received a letter in the mail, indicating that there had been irregular transactions on his credit report.

The victim said that he obtained a copy of his credit report and found that a total of fourteen attempts had been made by unknown persons to open various credit card accounts using his name and personal information.

The victim told deputies that he had not attempted to obtain any credit cards. He told deputies that the credit report company had urged him to file a police report to document the crimes.

Investigation in the matter is currently continuing through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
