Charges Of Filing False Report Issued In Theft Case

A Lawrenceburg woman has been jailed on charges that she filed a false police report in November when she reported that her computer had been stolen.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that Julia Ann Douglas, age 30, of 312 May Street, was arrested Wednesday on one count of filing a false report.

On November 27, 2012, Douglas filed a report, stating that her Compac laptop had been stolen from her car overnight while it was being driven by her brother.

Detectives report that during the course of the ensuing investigation they learned that Douglas had, in fact, sold the computer to an acquaintance for $150. Douglas reportedly filed a police report alleging theft due to the fact that she was still making payments to Rent-A-Center.

Detectives report that Douglas did confess to the crime. Evidence in the case is to be presented to a Lawrence County Grand Jury later this month.

Douglas is scheduled for an initial appearance in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on January 25, 2012.
