LCHS Sweeps Loretto Series

Daniel Rodgers, Sports

The holidays are over and its time to get back to work for the Lady Cats and Wildcats. They started the second half of their campaigns against in county rival Loretto.

The Lady Cats took the floor against a full house and #9 Loretto, taking the first quarter to shake off some Christmas rust. After trading punches for the first quarter, LCHS turned a close ballgame into a defensive showcase.

Despite a barrage of three point shots missing, the Lady Cats took a 28-14 halftime lead. With the Gilbert sisters providing a consistent offensive presence in the second half, the Cats pushed their lead to an eventual 52-30 victory, the second of the season against the Lady Mustangs.

LCHS pushed its win-loss margin to 16-2 for the season. Next game is Friday night at home against Tullahoma

After a disappointing showing at their Christmas invitational, the Wildcats came out determined and wanting another victory against their in county rivals.

After controlling the opening tip they played a high tempo, high energy game, going on a 20-0 run to open the game.

The defense was assisted by point blank misses from Loretto until just over two minutes in the first half, when the mustangs drained a trey.

The Cats didn’t allow much more than that through the first half, finally pulling all starters halfway through the second quarter.

With an overwhelming 56-18 lead in the third quarter, LCHS rotated out starters with secondary players, and despite the offensive drop off, finally ran out the clock with a 96-48 victory.

Friday night, the Wildcats welcome Tullahoma to LCHS for a district showdown.
