Arrest Made In Wake Of Vending Machine Theft

A Lawrenceburg man was apprehended in the wake of a theft from a vending machine outside a local business in the early hours New Year’s Day.

Members of the Lawrenceburg Police Department were notified just before 1:00 a.m. that a passerby had witnessed the crime. The witness reported that a white male wearing a toboggan and blue jeans had broken into a soda machine outside the Lawrenceburg Big Lots Store. The witness reported seeing the man run into a nearby field, situated behind White’s Department Store.

When they arrived at the location, officers report they were able to locate the man, who was hiding inside an abandoned truck. Officers report that the man had a crowbar in his possession along with 59 loose $1 bills, $7.25 in quarters, and .19 cents in miscellaneous change.

As a result, Anthony Curt McGee, age 24, of 205 Carroll Avenue, was placed under arrest on charges of theft and vandalism, and transported to the Lawrence County Jail. McGee allegedly told officers he had broken into the machine in order to obtain money to purchase drugs.

Damages to the machine were estimated to total $1,500.00.

McGee is slated to answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on February 1.
