Mary Wannell Hunt, age 96, of Nashville, TN passed away Sunday, October 23, 2016 at NHC Place The Trace after a short illness.
She was a native of Lawrence County, a banker, and a member of Blakemore United Methodist Church. She was known by her family as Nell and born in Iron City, Tennessee.
She started her business career as a cashier at the Bank of Saint Joseph where she worked for many years. Mary became a bank examiner for the State of Tennessee, where she worked until her retirement in 1995.
Those who knew her knew that she always carried peanut butter and crackers in her car – just in case. Mary was dedicated to her job at a time when she was the only female bank examiner, she persevered despite the discrimination she endured. She loved all of her family with great passion.
She spent a good deal of time in her early retirement mapping out the Hunt and Bryan family trees and desperately tried to pass this knowledge on to the rest of the family.
One learned quickly that a phone call with Nell would last much longer than expected. Mary was partial to no one, and kind to all she came in contact with. She love the Lord and lived according to His rules, striving to live a wholesome Christian life every day.
