Dr. W.S. Sutherland

Dr. W.S. Sutherland, age 89 of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was a native of Madison, TN., and a retired physician. Dr. Sutherland was a member of The Southern Medical Association, Lawrence County Medical Society, American Academy of Family Physicians, Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Diplomate of National Board of Medical Examiners and Seventh Day Adventist Church of Lawrenceburg.

Doc, as some of his neighbors called him, served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Technician in 1946 at the 49th General Hospital in Japan.

In 1950, he was a Laboratory and X-ray Technologist at Madison College and Hospital. In 1952, he received his BS Degree from Southern College in Collegedale, TN. In 1957, her received his Medical Doctorate Degree from Loma Linda University in Loma Lima, California. From 1957-1958, he interned at Orange County General Hospital in Orange, California.

Dr. Sutherland came to Lawrenceburg in December 1959 where he was associated with the old Lawrenceburg Sanitarium and Hospital that his grandfather helped found in 1911. He served as Chief of Staff and Administrator of the old hospital. He also served as Chief of Staff and on various committees for Scott Memorial Hospital. His practice consisted of family practice which included major and minor surgery, obstetrics and general medicine for 45 years.

Dr. Sutherland was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. and Dorothy Peterson Sutherland and Robert W. Sutherland; and one sister, Judy Moore.

He is survived by

James Thomas "Jimmy" Davis, age 69 of Loretto, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at ECM Hospital after a extended illness. He was a native of Lauderedale Co., AL., a pipe fitter for TVA, a 40 year member of Pipe Fitters Local 760, an United States Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam War and a member of Lexington United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held at Loretto Memorial Chapel on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 1pm. Steve Headrick will be officiating. Burial will follow in Loretto Memorial Gardens with military honors presented at the graveside.

Robert Verlon Hedgepeth, age 86, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee passeda way Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN. He was a native of Lawrence County, TN., retired truck driver from Kraft Foods where he worked from 1969 until 1992, and a member of Cloverdale Congregational Methodist Church. Mr. Hedgepeth served his country honorably in the U.S. Army.

Virginia "Ginny" Gilbert Curtis, 73, passed away September 17, 2017. The funeral service will be Wednesday, September 20, at 11am at Greenhill Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5pm to 8pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery.

Hillman Davis, age 91 of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away on September 7th, 2017. He was a retired from Murray Ohio, member of Deerfield Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.O. Davis and Martha Estell (Hill) Davis; brothers, Eunice Davis, J.D. Davis; sisters, Nellie Addington , Marwilla Perry, Estelle Riley, Alice Jones.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Nell (Brooks) Davis; one son, David H. Davis; one daughter, Dianne Yarbrough (Farris); one sister, Bernadine Davis; two grandsons, Brian Ellis (Holly), Brett Ellis (Melodie); two step-grandchildren, Chris Yarbrough, Marla Williamson (Kevin); two great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.

Frances J. Davis, age 89, of Nashville, TN passed away Monday, September 4, 2017 at Good Samaritan Health and Rehab Center in Antioch, TN. He was a native of Muncie, IN, and retired Sergeant First Class from the U.S. Army where he served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. He was also a member of Disabled American Veterans and Summertown Baptist Church, and a former member of Mimosa Lodge No. 542 and Order of the Eastern Star #103.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Thurman and Hattie Emma Daniels Davis; and his wife, Helen Louise Pyles Davis.

He is survived by one daughter, Janette Lanier (Thomas), Antioch, TN; one grandson, Lawrence Davis Lanier, Nashville, TN; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Hope Lanier, Los Angeles, CA.

On May 31, 1958, she married the love of her life, Toby Lee Kelley, to whom she was completely devoted to for 59 years.

Lucian Timothy O'Connor, age 84 of Franklin, Tennessee passed away August 19, 2017. Born in Loretto, TN., on August 17, 1933. Lucian loved his farm life, as well as his service in the Army, his career with IBM and most definitely his family, especially his two granddaughters. He loved traveling the world with his beloved wife, Mary, which they did extensively during their lives together. Many delighted in his company within his church family at Saint Philip Catholic Church in Franklin, TN., where he and Mary were long-time members. Over the years he was a member of the Elks, Eagles, Moose and VFW lodges.

Robert Walker "Bob" Counce, age 74 of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee passed away Monday, August 21, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN. He was a native of Savannah, TN., owner of Counce Hardware and Coldwell Banker Counce-Hooper Realty. He was also a member of Middle Tennessee Association of Realtors, Kiwanis Club of Lawrenceburg, Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and Coleman Memorial United Methodist Church.

Opal Ester Flippo McGee

Opal Ester Flippo McGee, 90 passed peacefully on August 15, 2017 with her loving daughter, Lucy, by her side. She was born in the Weeden Heights community of Lauderdale County to Rufus Nathaniel and Cora Gladys (Robnett) Flippo on January 19, 1927, surrounded by a very large and loving family.

Opal enjooyed a variety of things including cooking, sewing, writing poetry, gardening and canning the fruits and vegetables from her own garden, keeping her grandchildren and doting on her cat; rare was there an animal or baby she didn't love to cuddle. To some, she was "Opal", to others "Mother", "Aunt Opie" or "Mamaw" and to Lily and Olivia she was Mawgree; but to all she was jovial, loving and kind. Days spent picking strawberries with her in summer, listening to her recount stories of days gone by, hugs and kisses, and her delicious red velvet cake arejust a few things that will be greatly missed with her departure from our lilves. Her sense of humor, candor and vivacity in life were unprecedented and the ring of her laughter will forever be in the ears of all who knew her.

On January 9, 1946, she married the love of her life, Nicholas Fulton McGee, to whom she was completely devoted for sixty years until his death in 2006. Go much could be said about their marriage both in the way they were extremely dedicated to one another through prosperity and adversity and also the way in which they shared so much in diligence, generosity and in laughter. Their union was further blessed with the births of their two children, Ronald Fulton McGee and Esther Annette "Lucy" McGee, both of whom they were extremely proud.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Nick, her son Ronald, and a host of siblings, Lora and Eva Lou Guyse, Lindell, Claude, Bill, Bob, Ray, Wayne, Owen and Gladys Flippo (McGee).

She is survived by

Martha Rebecca Curtis

Martha Rebecca Curtis went to be with The Lord on Friday, August 11, at the Mt. Pleasant Health and Rehabilitation Center. Rebecca was born on June 9, 1936 in Lawrence County, the daughter of the late James and Layla Owens. Rebecca and her husband, Robert Lee Curtis, recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

She was a devout student of The Bible and could easily recite specific scriptures when giving advice. She was also a self taught pianist and frequently played at church. She loved to cook for her family, attend her grandchildren's various sporting events and work cross word puzzles before going to bed. However, her greatest enjoyment in life was her family, whom she loved very much. Up until her decline in health, Rebecca was a faithful member of The Tabernacle in Summertown, TN.

At the age of 17, she started work at State Farm and retired after 39 years. Claudia loved to dance, sing and was always smiling. Claudia never met a stranger and had many friends. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was the perfect wife, mother, Granna, sister and friend. Claudia was a member of the Ethridge Church of Christ.

Willliam Hubert Justice, age 82, of Ethridge, Tennessee passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017 at NHC Healthcare of Scott in Lawrenceburg, TN. He was a native of Young Harris, GA., retired from Budd Wheel Company in Detroit, MI., after 40 years of service and of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Justice served his country in the U.S. Army.

Joseph Steven Littrell

Joseph Steven "Steve" Littrell, 62 of Lexington went to be with his Lord on August 1st at UAB Hospital. Stever bravely battled pulmonary fibrosis since his diagnosis in 2012. He passed on the three year anniversary of his double lung transplant.

Steve served as an elder at Nebo Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Lexington. He loved the Lexington community and his friends, customers and co-workers at First Metro Bank. Stever was a graduate of the University of North Alabama and the Graduate School of Banking at LSU.

Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Joy Barnett Littrell, his father, Bobby Littrell, brother, Rick Littrell, and sister in law, Robin Shelton McCafferty, all of Lexington.

Steve is survived by

Wife of 36 years, Becky McCafferty Littrell, along with his son Tyler (Leslie) of Homewood, his daughter Whitney Tedford (Kelton) of Killen and his brother Benny (Dorinda) of Lexington.

He is also survived by his father and mother in law, Luther and Lanee McCafferty, his sister in law Sandra McCaffetty Mitchell (Danny), his brother in law Barry McCafferty, his brother in law Benjy McCafferty, his uncle Kenneth "Joe" Littrell, his aunts Brenda Gray and Bonnie Littrell, many nieces, nephews and their spouses and his First Metro Bank family.

Vistiation will be held on Friday, August 4th from 5pm to 8pm at Greenhill Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at Nebo Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 5th at 11am with Bro. Kevin Balch officiating followed by burial at the Nebo cemetery.

Phillip Gene Svetkovich, age 69 of Leoma, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at his home after a hard fought battle with leukemia. He was a machinist for Murray Ohio for 38 years. More importantly, he was a loving husband and father and devoted "Granday" to his two grandchildren.

He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his wife, Gloria J. Newton Svetkovich, his daughter, M'Lee Svetkovich Harvill and husband, tony; his son, Phillip G. Svetkovich, Jr. and wife, Laura; two grandchildren, Evan Lee Harvill and Raelyn June Svetkovich; other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Molly Ivec Svetkovich; and one brother, Fred Svetkovich.

He is also survived by two sister, Pat Littrell and Carolyn Putman; two brothers, Steve Svetkovich and Donnie Svetkovich; one uncle, Leo Ivec; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Audrey Evelyn Clemmons, 93, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. She was retired from K-Mart and was a member of Shiloh Church of Christ.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend and will be missed by all. She was an Avon lady, a lunchroom worker, and a knitting mill worker. She worked hard at anything to provide for her family. She was a talented seamstress, crocheting and knitting beautiful afghans, dish cloths and much more for her family and friends.

Mrs. Clemmons was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Clemmons; daughter, Jeanette Clemmons; parents, John and Georgia Stewart; brothers, Duncan and Johnny Stewart; infant brother, Doctor Stewart; and sister, Velma “Babe” McMurtrey.

Rickey Caperton, age 49, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia, TN.

Rickey was bond September 6, 1967 in Lawrenceburg to Fred Mack Caperton and Nellie Ruth Capteron. He was a 1985 graduate of Collinwood High School. Rickey married the love of his life, Christy Rich Capteron on October 17, 1992. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. He was employed by Dura Automotive Systems. He was a member of Hollis Chapel Church. He loved coaching baseball and served as a board member for Loretto Little League and Dixie Youth Baseball, and was a passionate deer hunter. Rickey was a man of integrity who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Mack Caperton; one sister, Mary Ruth Chapman; and two brothers, Roy Mack Caperton and Jeffrey Lynn Caperton.

James "Don" Belew, age 79 of Leoma, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at NHC Healthcare Lawrenceburg after a brief illness. He was a native of Lawrence County, TN., a retired United States Army Master Sergeant having served in the Vietnam War, and a member of Leoma Church of Christ. He was the owner of Belew's Coins. Don had collected old coins for over fifty years and then he had a mail order business for a long time.

Funeral services will be held at Loretto Memorial Chapel on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 3pm. Rodney Livingston will be officiating. Burial will follow in Leoma Cemetery with military honors given at the graveside.

Betty Jo Jewell Niedergeses, age 82, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Alive Hospice Residence Nashville. She was a native of Lawrence County, retired from Salant & Salant and Murray Ohio. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Lawrenceburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Willie Pruiett Jewell; and her husband, Pauley Andrew Niedergeses.

She is survived by three daughters: Jayne Niedergeses Jansen of Louisville, KY, Sherry Niedergeses Vaughn (Houston) of Brentwood, TN, and Susan Niedergeses of Knoxville, TN; four grandchildren: Ashley Jansen and McKenzey Jansen of Louisville, KY, Jake Poczobut of Knoxville, TN, and Philliip Vaughn of Nashville, TN; sister-in-law Mable Jewell Howell of Leoma, TN; several nieces and nephews.

William F. Casey

William F. "Bill" Casey, age 65 of Rensselaer, Indiana, passed away on July 5, 2017 at Franciscan Health Rensselaer. Bill was born in Lawrenceburg, TN., on March 9, 1952, the son of William Junior and Mae Eloise (nee Cox) Casey. Bill resided in Rensselaer for thirty three years, moving here from Toledo, OH.

Bill graduated from Libbey High School in Toledo with the Class of 1970. He had proudly served in the United States Air Force.

His marriage was in Toledo, OH., on October 26, 1984, to Mary Jo Grabowski who survives.

Bill was a supervisor at White Castle Bakery in Rensselaer and worked at Caboose Lae Campground in Remington, IN. He had many outside interests and enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, bowling and classic cars. Bill also had assisted with coaching of the Rensselaer Central High School volleyball team.

Bill's greatest jooy was time spent with family and he loved time spent with his three grandchildren.

She was a retired school bus driver, a retired Dollywood employee, a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and was a member of Meadow View Baptist Church. She loved her husband, her children, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and dessert. She loved dessert.
