Travis Coleman

Travis "J.T." Coleman, agge 91 of Leoma, Tennessee passed away Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, AL. He was a native of Lawrence County, TN., retired Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force and a farmer. Mr. Coleman was a 60 year member of the Loretto Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason, a Cahaba Shrine and an Al Menah Shriner. As an active member, he transported children to the Shriners Hospital for Children and to the Shrine Circus. He was also a member of the Historical Society and Leoma Baptist Church. Mr. Coleman served on the Lawrence County Election Commission and past board member of Lawrence Farmers Co-op.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Talmadge and Blanche Yarber Coleman; his first wife, Canara Durham Coleman; and one sister, Azalee Scott.

Mr. Coleman will lie in state from 1pm until 2pm at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow at Leoma Cemetery in Leoma, TN with full military honors. Family suggests memorials be made to Leoma Baptist Church Building Fund.

Funeral services will be held at Loretto Memorial Chapel on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 2pm Sam Hayes will be officiating. Burial will follow in Odems Chapel Cemetery.

Jeffrey Wayne Hunt

Jeffrey Wayne Hunt was born May 15, 1968 and was called home on September 26, 2016. He was a devoted husband, father, son and brother whose commitment to his God and to his faith was evident in every action and interaction. Born in Lawrenceburg, TN to Gerald and Shirley Hunt.

He and older brother Wade attended the University of Tennessee where Jeff received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree. Jeff moved to Atlanta, GA where he met and married the love of his life, Susan, and welcomed children Katie, Adam and Evy. The family later moved to Matthews, NC where he worked for Bank of America. He loved to fish, read and play games with his family. His sense of humor and peaceful nature left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Jeff is forever in our thoughts and in our hearts.

Jeff was preceded in death by daughter Katie Hunt, paternal grandparents Columbus and Mary Vernon Hunt and maternal grandparents Travis and Dean Jones.

Jeff is survived by his wife Susan Hunt and children, Adam and Evy; his parents Gerald and Shirley Hunt; his older brother Wade Hunt and sister-in-law Cindy; his sister-in-law Tricia Finesilver and husband Billy; his nephew CJ and nieces Emily and Julia; his in-laws Jack and Marianne Allred.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Jeff Hunt will be held on Thursday, September 29 at 4pm at Carmel Baptist Church (1145 Pineville-Matthews Rd. Matthews, NC 28105). Arrangements are under the direction of Gaskin Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Monroe Carrell Jr. at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and Fishing Has No Boundaries.

Juretta Jane Koch, age 83 of Lawrenceburg, formally of Hartford, MI., passed away on September 22, 2016 with her family by her side after the recent passing of the love of her life Kenneth Clayton Koch on September 11, 2016, husband of 65 years.

She was a 24 year resident of Lawrenceburg, TN.

Luretta's most important roles in her life were that of wife and mother. She was a stay at home mom and raised 4 children.

She was always smiling; she could talk to anyone that she walked up to. She loved her family and friends and life itself.

She was a wonderful cook and baker. She could make something out of nothing. She pulled items out ot the cupboard and she whipped up a meal, there was always plenty to share with anyone dropping by.

She taught her children to be loving and caring and how to cook.

Billy Dean Frazier, age 78 of Greentown, Indiana, formerly of Leoma, TN., passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at his daughter's residence. He was born November 11, 1937 in Lawrence County, TN., to William Estel and Ruby Leona Frazier and married Freda Shultz Frazier on March 18, 1961. He was a graduate of Lawrence County High School, a member of Mimosa Lodge #542, Cahaba Shrine in Huntsville, AL., and Ameerican Legion Post 146. Mr. Frazier served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1958.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son and daugher-in-law, Greg and LeeAnn Frazier; and one brother, Bobby Frazier.

Jesse Austeen Cole, age 95, of Fortville, IN passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems Lawrenceburg. He was a native of Appleton, TN, retired from General Motors, and a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church in Pendleton, IN. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Vester and Mary Hurn Cole; his wife, Ruth Clayton Cole; two grandchildren, Timothy Cole and Nicole Louden; two sisters, Othella Singleton and Theoda Guthrie; and one brother, Austin Cole.

Clifford Lindell "C.L." Flippo, 89 of Madison, Alabama passed away September 18, 2016. Mr. Flippo was a retired Civil Engineer with 27 years of service at TVA, having retired in 1988. He obtained his B.S. in Civil Engineering at Auburn University in 1954 and his M.S. degree in 1968. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army, having served with the 8th United States Army Occupational Force n Japan and Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Kenneth Clayton Koch

Kenneth Clayton Koch, age 84 of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee passed away on September 11, 2016 at his residence. He was a native of Hartford, Michigan. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Ken married his high school sweetheart, Luretta of 65 years. He was a resident of Lawrenceburg, TN., formerly of Hartford, Michigan. Ken loved his family, playing catch in the backyard, family vacations, camping, teaching his boy how to hunt and fish.

For many years they would buy houses fix them up and sell them. He was a do-it yourself person and could fix anything.

When he retired they lived in Michigan after doing some traveling with their 5th wheel. They retired to Lawrenceburg.

They have been a resident of Lawrenceburg for 24 years.

Ken loved taking his boys hunting and fishing. He loved his hunting dog, Candy. They did a lot of rabbit and pheasant hunting together. His hobbies were he was an avid sportsman, camping, traveling, riding motorcycles, remodeling houses and loved sitting in the sun.

Margaret Evelyn Quillen, age 73, of Greenhill, Alabama passed away September 6, 2016 at ECM Hospital. Mrs. Quillen was a Registered Nurse and a member of Milner's Chapel United Methodist Church. Evelyn worked her entire career serving others. She began her nursing career at ECM Hospital where she served for 10 years. She then transferred to Florence Hospital and served for 27 years. She retired in 2007 after serving 10 years at Hospice of the Shoals.

Henry Russell Thomas, age 97 of Leoma, TN passed away Thursday, September 1, 2016 at NHC Healthcare Scott after a brief illness.

He was a native of Lawrence County, a farmer, and a member of Ramah Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of Lawrence Farmer's Co-Operative Soil Conservation, Centerpoint Community Club, and a founding member of Centerpoint Volunteer Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jamie Florine Morris Thomas; daughter Dorothy Thomas Butler; and great-granddaughter, Lucy Mae Thomas.

Thomas D. Benson, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee age 84, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016. He was an Air Force Veteran, a graduate of the University of Tennessee and the YMCA/Nashville School of Law where he earned the distinction of Alumni of the Year.

He spent most of his career in Tennessee State Government where he rose to Commissioner of Revenue and Commissioner of Economic and Community Development playing a large role in bringing Nissan to Tennessee. He ended his work career in charge of Government Relations in three states for CSX Transportation.

He retired to his home place as a gentleman farmer and a Gideon; active in prison ministry and God's Storehouse.

He was preceded in death by his fater, Robert Millard Benson, mother, Nell Kitchen Benson and sister, Sue Boston.

Alvin Richardson

Alvin "Junior" Richardson passed away of heart complications on Saturday, August 13, 2016. He was born November 10, 1927 in Lauderdale County, living most of his life near the Greenhill Community. He and his wife Lola had relocated to Sheffield, Alabama in recent years. After her passing in 2014, he resided with his son in Tuscumbia, and with his daughter in Columbia, TN.

He was a faithful member of Center Hill Church of Christ for over 30 years, then attended Westside Church of Christ in Sheffiled after he and Lola relocated.

He was a certified mechanic and machinist and retired from the Lauderdale County School System.

He was especially well known for his passion for collecting and repairing old clocks, which began in 1960. His knowledge and expertise of antique clock repair made him many good friends and gave him many years of enjoyment and he was blessed to be able to continue his hobby right till the end of his life.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Lola Pearl Hill Richardson, his parents, Alvin Sr. and Velma Richardson, one daughter, Rebecca Denise Richardson, three brothers, Robert, James and Elmer Richardson, one sister, Elba Tidwell.

Mr. Grigsby was a retired painter for TVA, a member of Painters Local #1293 and a member of Lone Cedar Church of Christ. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War where he served as a Corporal in the 40th Auxilary Infantry. Mr. Grigsby was a member of Korean War Verterans Association and also the Alabama Cattlemen Association. Jim was a hunter, farmer, and outdoorsman. He loved giving to others, reading his Bible and his church family and had a very special love for his wife Velma. Our loving father left us memories of him as an animal lover and a music lover, noting that he was a singer in his younger years for the Lauderdale County Playboys, who enjoyed radio play in the Shoals.

Mary was a wonderful friend who gave out kindness and compassion freely as she went throughout her day. She was a loving soul who noticed people's needs and did her best to take care of such needs. She had a very pleasant demeanor even though her body became weak, she made sure she took care of ther family. She was always a humble heart who never asked for anything in return. Mary delighted in raising her children and made sure they were involved and had everything they needed. She will be extremely missed every day.

Adeline Marion Morrison Ivie, age 93 of Summertown, Tennessee passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016 at NHC Healthcare of Scott in Lawrenceburg, TN. She was a native of Detroit, MI., a first generation immigrant from Scotland, a graduate of Pershing High School and upon graduation worked at the Detroit Public Library. She was a homemaker, election worker, and substitute teacher.

As an active member of Summertown Baptist Church for over 60 years, she was a Sunday School Teacher, G.A. Leader and Door Greeter. Mrs. Ivies' favorite past times were tending her roses, stitching embroidery work and babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved her family, church family and many friends.

Elizabeth Helen Thigpen, 88 of Marietta, Georgia, passed away July 16, 2016. Mrs. Thigpen was born July 7, 1928 in Florence, AL. She leaves behind a sister, Ethel Wells and two childre, Cathy Greene and Don Thigpen. She also is survived by grandchildren Joshua Greene and Jennifer Greene.

Elizabeth was a devoted and loving mother. She was known for her feisty yet good sense of humor. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Fred Pruitt, age 63 of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at his residence. He was a native of Cheverly, MD and employed at Fleeman Trucking. He was a member of the American Legion Post 146, a life member of D.A.V., and Unity Church of God. Mr. Pruitt served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.

Charles Edward Haygood, age 77, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at his residence. He was a native of Lawrenceburg, TN, retired mechanic, and a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene. He was also a member of the Lawrence County Classic Car Club and the McDonalds Coffee Drinkers Club. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Edward and Maudie Martin Haygood.

Franklin Douglas Keene, age 81, of Ethridge, TN passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016 at his residence. He was a native of Drill, VA, and retired from General Motors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert James and Hester Mae Dye Keene; and his wife Annie Louise Nelson Keene.

He is survived by one son, Randy Keene of Ethridge; one daughter, Vickie Hendrix, Ethridge; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Donald Dean Glover

Donald Dean Glover, 83, of Florence, AL passed away July 12, 2016 at El Reposo Nursing Facility. He was born on December 3, 1932 in Crescent, Oklahoma, the fifth of six children born to Vinnie George and Edith Dodson Glover. At 20, he met and married the love of his life, Mary Ann Elizabeth Huff. They were married for 63 years.

After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, he went to work with Ford Motor Company in Sheffield for 25 years, and for Chrysler in Huntsville for 10 years. He loved to tinker in his workshop and was known for his woodcarving. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Greenhill Lodge and served for 55 years. He was an ordained Baptist Deacon and was secure in his faith.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Glover; daughter, Beverly Mangum (Pete), of Florence; son, Joel Glover (Melanie) of Rockford, AL; and three grandchildren, Erin (“Squirt” as Papa called her) Mangum of Florence, Justin Glover of Brooklyn, NY, and Caleb Glover of Starkville, MS. He is also survived by brother Jack Glover of Arkansas, and sister Mary Ann Kagabein of Arkansas.

She was a native of Paducah, worked for Bell South in Paducah and Florence, and was a member of Central Baptist Church in Florence.

Frances Pauline Young Fleeman, age 100 of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee passed away Monday July 4, 2016 at Country Cottage Assisted Living in Lawrenceburg, TN. "Miss Polly" was born in the Maury County, TN community of Water Valley. She was the daughter of the late John McGowan and Myra Letsinger McGowan and attended schools in the Santa Fe Community.

She has resided in Lawrenceburg since 1936 where she worked as a sales clerk at different businesses on the square for 68 years, finally retiring at the age of 88 from Moore's. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Ladies Auxillary of VFW Post 1618. She was also a member of the Lawrenceburg Order of the Eastern Star for fifty plus years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee "Bud" Young and Dewey Fleeman; sister, Christine Bryant; brothers, Earl McGowan, Douglas McGowan, Leslie McGowan and Pual McGowan; and nephews John Harrison Bryant and Leslie Paul McGowna.

Virgilene Hale

Virgilene Hale, 94, died peacefully at her home on July 2, 2016. Born in 1922, Miss Virgilene was widely known in the Antioch Community as a hard worker who continued to cut her own yard and maintain her beautiful flowers until the very end. She had an amazing recall of her 94 years and told stories of her entire life with great detail. Virgilene was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She worked at several knitting mills in the area before quitting to take care of her ailing husband, J.T., until his death. No one had a more dedicated caregiver.

Along with her husband, Virgilene was also preceded in death by parents Dock and Maggie Tidwell, sister, Marguerite Troousdale and husband, Gilbert, brothers, Earl Tidwell and Floyd Tidwell and wife, Lucille. She leaves behind a host of good friends and neighbors and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Debbie Dinges and Melissa Bell of Center Star Family Practice for the loving care given to their aunt. They would also like to thank her neighbors and friends of the Antioch Community for the kindness shown to Aunt Virgilene. Justine Doster Stutts

Justine Doster Stutts was born on Rhea Branch in rural Giles County, TN., outside of Campbellsville, on November 25, 1922. She had a twin brother, James Justin Doster who passed away in 2014. Her parents were James Jasper Doster and Mary Ida Johnson Doster, both school teachers.

Besides her twin brother, she had an older brother, William Lewis Doster and three oldere sisters, Matte Pearl Marable, Thelma D. Myrick and Nelle Noell. She was the last surviving sibling. She and all of the brothers and sisters were teachers. When she and her brother were five, the family moved to Murfreesboro, TN., so all of the children could attend college.

Ms. Stutts graduated from Middle Tennessee State Teachers College, majoring in Business Education and became a typing and shorthand teacher following the career of two of the older sisters. Her first teaching job was at Loretto High School as she substituted for Thelma Myrick for three years. She then became a teacher in Smithville followed by a job with the State of Tennessee as an administrative assistant. Ms. Stutts married Lee Alison Stutts in Nashville in 1953 and they moved to Oak Ridge where she worked for what is now the Oak Ridge National Labs. She and her husband returned to Loretto in 1964 where both taught at Loretto High School. Mr. Stutts passed away n 1970. Ms. Stutts continued to teach until retirement at Loretto in 1985. She and her sister taught typing and shorthand in Loretto for well over 50 years.

Mrs. Stutts was a member of the Loretto Church of Christ for over 50 years and a third generation member of churches of Christ. She stayed active with her church until she entered Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home in 2014. In addition to her large spiritual family, she is survived by sister-in-law, Bettye Doster, seven nieces and nephews, David Boone Marable, Justin A. Myrick Sr., Justin M. Gooch, James E. Myrick, Mary Coyla Richardson, Dana Luton and Jan Bennett and 17 great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, June 27 form 11am to 1pm at Greenhill Funeral Home with the service following at 1pm with Eddie Gooch officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Methodist Cemetery.

James Dunn Crowder, age 80, of Lawrenceburg passed away on June 9, 2016 at his residence. He was a native of Lawrenceburg, retired Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, and a retired teacher from Lawrence County High School.
