Traffic stop leads to marijuana bust
Lawrenceburg Now
A recent traffic stop conducted by a Lawrence County Sheriff's deputy in the Ethridge area resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of marijuana and charges being brought against the driver.
The incident occurred at around 8:00 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 43 North, near the County Farm Road intersection. A deputy reports that, while on patrol, he noticed a vehicle with a non-functioning headlight.
The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as nineteen year old Tre Vaughn Deontae Reed of 230 Cocke Street, Lawrenceburg.
The deputy reports that he detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and questioned Reed about it. He admitted that he had handed off some marijuana to a passenger prior to stopping.
He denied, however, that he was in possession of any more of the drug. The amount of marijuana the deputy retrieved from the car weighed approximately 6 grams.
During a pat-down, the deputy reports finding a large vacuum-sealed bag of marijuana concealed in Reed's beltline. It contained approximately one pound of the drug.
This was seized into evidence along with $1,185 cash Reed had in his possession. The money was seized under the assumption that it was proceeds from illegal narcotics sales.
Reed was subsequently placed under arrest on charges of possession of Schedule VI narcotics for the purpose of resale. He was transported for incarceration at the Lawrence County Detention Center.
