Dog Abandoned Inside Home When Owner Moves
Officials were able to rescue a dog last week that had been abandoned inside a home on Beckham Avenue when its owner moved away some three months prior.
The property owner contacted officers with the Lawrenceburg Police Department last week to report the matter. She said that she had rented the home to a couple who had moved to Michigan about three months prior.
She said that she had found people living inside the home and had just completed the eviction process to remove them from her property. Once they had moved, she said she received a text message from one of the evicted parties instructing her to, “Just open the door and let the dog escape.” She told officers that the dog, “Was vicious and needed to be removed.”
A neighbor told officers that he was familiar with the dog and volunteered to retrieve it. Reports show that he was able to retrieve the dog without incident. It was transported to the Lawrenceburg Animal Shelter for evaluation and care. They reported that the dog appeared to be malnourished and was somewhat aggressive. The dog was given food and care.
Investigation into the abandonment of the dog is underway currently.
