Suspect in hit and run arrested

Press release

On 12/18/2016 at 7:27 AM, a hit & run crash occurred in the parking lot of Wal-Mart (2130 N. Locust Avenue) involving a SUV and pedestrian.  The pedestrian sustained minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital.  

Police Officers were able to gain information that the same described hit & run vehicle from Wal-Mart was also involved in another hit & run serious injury crash in Ethridge, TN, in which the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) was working.  

Members from both departments quickly worked the cases and were able to identify William Scot Hughes, age 47 of Lawrenceburg, TN, as the driver during of both crashes. 

On 12/22/2016, William Scot Hughes was arrested and transported to the Lawrence County Jail for booking on three counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, three counts of Aggravated Assault, immediate notice of accident and leaving the scene of crash.  Hughes is to appear in General Sessions Court on January 5th, 2017 at 9:00 AM.
